Dr. Sukhwinder Singh from Electronics & Communication Engineering Department and his team members Mr. Sandeep Kumar and Prof. Jagdish Kumar from Electrical Engg dept. of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) have been awarded a patent for their invention of a smart care taker. They designed a system for working parents to monitor their infants from remote locations. This system consists of smart bracelets housing a camera, GPS and microprocessors to be worn by the parent and the child. The Childs bracelet can continuously monitor the emotions of the child through Deep learning and alert the parents if it recognizes the child is anxious, fearful etc. along with the child’s GPS information.
Besides this, Dr. Sukhwinder Singh and his team is developing a system to ensure the safety and security of women at public places like public parks, bus stands, railway stations and markets etc.. This system works with trained AI models that can detect any suspicious activities of a person that might be endangering women and raise an alarm. The system developed can inform the nearby police post for prompt action and the software has undergone successful testing in a simulated environment and is currently preparing to check its accuracy in a real-time environment. This project is sponsored by DST, Chandigarh administration and will be deployed in various public parks in Chandigarh.
Dr. Sukhwinder Singh and his team are also developing an Indian sign language translator which translates the Indian sign language to text and vice versa for better communication between the signer and non-signer community. He has coordinated with the Vatika Special School, Sector 19 Chandigarh to examine the effectiveness of the translator by keeping their requirements in mind. A dataset was created from scratch and is currently undergoing testing under various environments. The team published their work in Expert Systems with applications, Elsevier Journal having Impact factor: 6.954.
