The Department of Chemistry of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh today organized an event ''Celebrating Women in Science and Technology'' on 14th March, 2024. The chief guest of the event Prof. Keya Dharamvir (PU, Chandigarh) along with scientific expert talk by the keynote speakers Dr. Pallavi Bansal (M.S. OBGYN, Ex-Registrar PGIMER) and Dr. Pooja Devi (Principal Scientist, CSIR-CSIO) graced the occasion with their esteemed presence. This special event and expert talk was organized by Dr. Harminder Kaur (Head, Deptt. of Chemistry) along with Dr. Navneet Kaur, Dr. Balwinder Kaur as Event Coordinators and Dr. Priyanka Verma, Dr. Akshi and Dr. Manendra as Co-Coordinators.
Initially, Dr. Harminder Kaur, welcomed all the esteemed guests at the portals of PEC. She shed light on the need of celebrating women not only in the field of science but in every field. She expressed her gratitude towards the guests and the audience at large.
our first Expert of today's event, Dr. Pallavi Bansal, shed light on the physical and sexual health of both the genders. She shed light on the minor but imperative habits that students could use while living away from home for studies. She also explained the minor details that we should keep in mind in case of PCOD/PCOS. In the interactive session, the audience was completely engaged with her valuable insights that youngsters should adopt to stay safe from STDs, AIDS, Unwanted Pregnancy and other issues arising from unprotected sexual intercourse. She provided the important message to the audience that, 'Be yourself, Everyone else is Taken'.
Dr. Pooja Devi, gave her insights on the academic topic of Catalyzing Translational Research in Materials Science. She explained the water resources, the scientific programs adopted by CSIR for societal uplift of the country. She shed light on the women in Science, who're making the country proud. Lastly, She said that, 'We want a Society who accepts us as Individuals and respects our individuality.'
Chief Guest, Prof. Keya Dharamvir, in her address, congratulated all the organisers of the Event. She said that there should be more talk about women in Stem. As we reach on the top ladder of leadership or on the top hierarchy of any field, women's contribution is reducing drastically. We have many examples, but still we should look at this factor as well. She once again congratulated all women and coordinators of the event for arranging this session.
The event ended with felicitation of the guests and with a vote of thanks by the coordinators.
