Workshop in Funding Opportunities in Electronics Engineering at Semiconductor Research Centre, PEC

Newly Established Semiconductor Research Centre at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) hosted a one day workshop on ‘Funding Opportunities in Electronics Engineering’ in technical collaboration with IEEE Chandigarh Subsection supported by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), DST, Govt. of India.

The event brought together experts from academia around the globe to present and discuss their latest research and ideas in the field of Electronics Engineering. The workshop was based on the idea to explore various research opportunities and learn more about advanced semiconductor technologies. More importantly, it provided students with an opportunity to meet seasoned experts and experienced peers. The event was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Dr. Baldev Setia.

In his keynote speech he complimented the ECE department on their tremendous efforts to set up this state of the art lab. He also encouraged researchers, scholars and professionals in the industry to visit and utilize the facilities of the lab for research purposes. The Lab encompasses a clean room that can characterize materials and fabricate microchips, which is one of its kind in the northern part of the country. Funding for the research especially in educational institutes has been traditionally harder to come by. This timely workshop will be crucial to facilitating research opportunities and educating researchers on how to secure funding. The keynote speakers included professor Shahrir S Kasjoo, University Malaysia Perlis, Mohamed Shuiab M Saheed from COINN, UTP Malaysia and various renowned researchers from IITs, DRDO and ISRO.

PEC recently commemorated 100 years of its indelible legacy on 16th November 2021.  It also marked by the inauguration of Semiconductor Research Centre (Clean Lab) by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind on the same day. This initiative fosters the need to permeate the spirit of the country’s scientific community and nurtures the confluence of scientific knowledge with visionary leadership and social conscience. The main objective behind this workshop was to harness the voluntary potential that is latent in the country’s scientific community to strengthen science and society linkages so as to make the S&T ecosystem vibrant. The workshop was concluded by Professor Arun Kumar Singh, Coordinator SRC who thanked all the dignitaries for their eminent thoughts and contributions to the conference.
