Initial quiz
The first event, a harbinger of times to come, when such quizzes would be held with wonderful regularity was a quiz conducted by fourth year student and avid quizzer Madhur Behl, which saw amazing participation with a nearly full auditorium, also gave the incoming batch a taste of the kind of events SAASC conducts. More than 110 teams registered for the quiz.
Recruitments
This of course was followed as always, by recruitments, as SAASC tried to find the best and the most enthusiastic among those new to college, who would be an asset to the club in the times to come. The procedure, which, like always consisted of a written test and an interview saw huge interest, with more that 190 people turning up to register. We selected 47 people in all
Quizzing workshop
This was then followed by a quizzing workshop, by renowned quizmaster of the region, Mr. Chittranjan Aggarwal, who not only helped us understand the subtle nuances of quizzing, but in his own inimitable style also showed us just how being aware of the world around us can actually help us in the times to come.
Public speaking workshop
On 29th September, a workshop on public speaking was conducted by SAASC, taken by Mr. Gaurav Chhibber, a final year student at UIET Chandigarh, who is national level debater of much repute. The 2 hour workshop afforded explicit pronunciation techniques and measures to avoid an on-stage faux-pas to an auditorium that accommodated more than a 100 students. Open to all, the students were skilled in various forms of public speaking including Just a Minute, Debating, Group Discussions and Interviews. A practice session was held henceforth, with a group of 10 students participating in a group discussion, wherein the usual errors of a participant were focused upon and a possible approach to avoid them was further dealt with. The session concluded in a question-answer round where students could seek a proficient approach in dealing with typical on-stage crisis that may often pin them down.

JAM session
A workshop on Just a Minute was conducted by SAASC on the 27th of August, 2008, managed by Advitya Patyal and Vinay Satija. The session, open only to the SAASC members, tutored all on ways to maintain a constant verbal flow and a perpetual mind-speech sync that proves to be of the highest importance in this genre of public speaking. The students were well acquainted with the official rules of jamming and the standard marking scheme. The workshop, well-attended, was followed by extensive jamming sessions, in groups of 5 from which a participant each was forwarded to the semi-finals and thence the finals. The rounds also had concurrent suggestions from the seniors on ways to evade the errors often made by the participants. Vinay Satija, third year, stood first, closely followed by Anand Malhotra, first year, and Prateek Dudeja, second year, who bagged the third position. Close to 70 people participated in this.
Group Discussion session cum workshop
A group discussion session was conducted in the auditorium. Group discussions form an important part of almost all recruitment and selection procedures these days. So some of the more pertinent aspects of GD were discussed and some actual GDs were conducted in which the senior members of the club tried to help the first and the second year to improve on the various shortcomings. About 50 people participated and learnt out of the workshop.
Quizzing forum activities
SAASC brings you the quizzing forum that gives you the opportunity to prove your intellectual might to the entire college. We conduct quizzes on a regular basis that are witnessed by a consistent of crowd of fifty people. We have an elimination round to filter out the best teams of the day which then gives way to the quizzing session which includes various rounds and an avalanche of questions bombarded at the enthusiastic teams. Quizmasters including Madhur, Aman and Arastu (law deptt PU) have put up questions which made us all clap for their witty brilliance. Cash prizes are also given out to the winners at the end. Our aim is to spread knowledge amongst one and all and to churn out quizzers who can challenge on a national level. We have had three quizzes in this semester, one of them being in the auditorium which saw about 110 teams participating. This is one of the biggest quiz responses we’ve had in recent times.
