Sports Achievements for the session 2006-2007

• 60th Annual Athletic Meet of the institute was held in October, 2006 in which 42 events were organized and 1604 students participated in these events. Mr. Raman of third year Electrical Engineering and Ms.Shivani of second year I.T. were declared Best Athletes among boys & girls respectively while Mr.Vaibhav of third year E & EC Engineering was declared Best Cyclist. Mr. Abhimanyu Parmar of second year Production Engineering won the obstacle race. Prof.K.K. Talwar, Director, P.G.I.M.E.R., Chandigarh gave away the prizes to the winners.
• Mr.Saurabh Jagota of final year Metallurgical Engineering has won Gold Medal in Chandigarh Senior State Judo championship. Mr.Jagota also participated in All India Inter University Judo championship held at Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada, University, Nanded (Maharashtra) from 6.12.06 to 10.12.06. He also participated in National Games and Senior National Judo championships held at Gwahati and Vijaywada respectively.
• Mr.Rahul Sharma of second year Metallurgical Engineering has won Gold Medal in Chandigarh Junior State Judo championship and also participated in All India Inter University Judo championship held at Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada, University, Nanded (Maharashtra) from 6.12.06 to 10.12.06.
• Mr.Rohit Sahota of final year I.T. and Mr.Khushdeep Dhillon of second year Mechanical Engineering have participated in All India Inter University Power Lifting championship held at Lakshmi Bai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior from 23.10.06 to 25.10.06.
• Mr.Tushar Batra of second year Electrical Engineering has participated in 16th U-21 National Football championship held in Haldwani (Uttaranchal) from 25th April to 5th May, 2007.
• First time the cricket team of the institute captained by Mr.Arun Syal of final year I.T. participated in the North Zone Inter University Cricket tournament held at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh from 19.10.06 to 05.11.06 and reached in Quarter-Final (Team members: Saurabh Sharma, Kamaljeet, Raj Kishore ,Mohit Bharti ,Rahul Bhandari, Sandeep, Gaganpreet, Navpreet ,Harmandeep , Simranjit Singh, Gaurav Chopra, Aseem Grover, Angad Singh)
• Cricket team of the institute Won First Position in Inter Engineering Deemed University Cricket tournament held at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur from 25.3.07 to 27.3.07 (Team members: Arun Syal (Captain) Saurabh Sharma, Kamaljeet, Raj Kishore, Mohit Bharti, Rahul Bhandari, Sandeep, Gaganpreet, Navpreet, Harmandeep, Simranjit Singh, Gaurav Chopra, Aseem Grover)
• Chess team of the institute captained by Mr.Vivek Kaushal of final year Computer Science participated in the All India Inter University Chess tournament held at Chhatarpati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur from 27.10.06 to 01.11.06 (Team members: Mandeep Singh, Avnir Singh, Ritesh Bhatia, Vaibhav Data, Saurabh Aggarwal)
• Chess team (Mr.Vivek Kaushal, Mr.Mandeep Singh, Mr.Avnir Singh, Mr.Ritesh Bhatia & Mr.Vaibhav Data) of the institute secured runners-up position in Inter Engineering Deemed University Chess tournament held at National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar on 12th & 13th November, 2006.
• Squash Racket team of the institute captained by Mr.Gurmohan Singh Gill of third year Mechanical Engineering participated in the All India Inter University Squash Racket tournament held at Anna University, Chenai from 27.12.06 to 30.12.06 and reached in quarter-final (Team members: Mayank Dewan, Akshat Goyal, Amandeep Mittal, Vaibhav Kapoor)
• Table Tennis team captained by Mr.Sajal Kaushal of second year Production Engineering participated in the All India Inter University Table Tennis tournament held at H.N.B.G University, Srinagar (Garhwal) from 6.10.06 to 9.10.06 (Team members: Piyush Bansal, Arun Makkar, Saket Gupta, Vishal Goyal)
• Basketball team captain by Mr.Mahender Singh of final year Mechanical Engineering won First Position in the Inter Engineering Deemed University tournament held on 16th & 17th February, 2007 at Thapar University, Patiala (Team members: Gurinderpal Singh, Tarun Vats, Jorawar Singh, Sameer Sethi, Anilesh, Rahul, Kashish, Advitya Patyal, Nitin Gupta, Abhimanyu, Ankit Saria) Badminton team captain by Mr.Sahil Sharma of final year Computer Science secured First Position in the Inter Engineering Deemed University tournament held on 12th & 13th February, 2007 at Dr.B.R.Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (Team members: Neeraj Kapoor, Anshul Aggarwal, Ankit Sharma, Gurmohan Singh Gill, Varun Gupta)
• Football team (Boys) captained by Mr.Ravinder Pal Singh of final year Aeronautical Engineering secured Runners-up Position in the Inter Engineering Deemed University tournament held on 24th & 25th September, 2006 at Punjab Engineering College, Deemed University, Chandigarh (Team members: Abhimanu Parmar, Ajit Pal Singh, Nitin Shyam, Ankit K. Arora, Abhishek, Kishuk, Ashwin Newaskar, Aman Gudral, Ankit Sharma, Sunil Sharma, Vinay Kumar, Gagandeep S. Virk, Pankaj, Tushar Batra, Sumit Verma, Varun Kashyap, Sukhpreet Brar)
• Badminton team (Girls) captained by Ms.Shruti Singh of final year Electrical Engineering secured First Position in the Inter Engineering Deemed University tournament held on 16th & 17th February, 2007 at Thapar University, Patiala.
• To promote ‘Health & Wellness’ through physical activity among students, faculty, staff and their family members two Mini-Marathons of P.E.C. were organized on 4.2.2007 and 18.3.2007.
