Blood Donation Camp (17th October, 2011)



A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the NSS Unit of PEC University of Technology on 17th October 2011 under the guidance of Prof. Sushant Sameer (NSS Co-ordinator), Dr. Anju Singla (NSS Program Officer) and Prof. Shobhna Dhiman (NSS Program Officer), along with the student coordinators Akshaye Raj and Mohit Bagga. The team led by Dr. Usha Rao from Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research), along with 3 other doctors and a 12-member paramedical staff conducted the Blood Donation Camp.The camp was inaugurated by Mr. VK Singh, the Secretary Technical Education of Chandigarh Administration and Dr. Manoj Datta, Director PEC. The Chief Guest Mr. VK Singh felicitated 21 Star donors, students, faculty and staff who have donated blood atleast 5 times. He also encouraged the students to persist with their efforts and maintain the high standards of service to the society. Total 460 units of blood were collected. A poster making competition in collaboration with PGI was held on Sunday and the winners were awarded by the chief guest. Exhibition for HIV AIDS awareness was put up by Red Ribbon Club with State AIDS Control Society, Chandigarh. Mementos to the blood donors were also given by the society. The team of PGI doctors also emphasized the importance of donating blood to the students. The students were also given the donor cards that can help them to get blood in times of need. ”The event held was a huge success in imbibing the spirit of giving among the budding engineers” said Akshaye Raj, the student coordinator of NSS.
