PEC – UWA, Australia Collaboration
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Punjab Engineering College, Deemed University, Chandigarh and University of Australia, Australia, on 15.01.2009 by Dr.Doug McEachern, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Innovation, UWA and Dr.Manoj Datta, Director, PEC. The MoU has been signed with the major objective to establish academic collaboration and student exchange between the two Universities. Dr.Doug McEachern was accompanied by Dr.Hema Sharda ,Director, South Asia relations from UWA. The teams from both the institutions had done the preliminary work for this collaboration which was quite imperative. The prominent feature of the MoU includes exchange of academic resources and other academic information, exchange of students and staff, conduct of joint research activities like conferences, workshops and academic conventions.
The dignitaries from UWA visited the Cyber Security Research Centre in Department of Computer Science & Engineering at PEC, where the team given a presentation on various activities of the Research Centre by Dr.Sanjeev Sofat, HOD, CSE. The Deputy Vice Chancellor was highly impressed and showed keen interest to pursue joint projects in the area of Information Security and other allied areas.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Director, Registrar, Deans, Training and Placement officer, Heads, faculty and students of respective Departments. The welcome address was given by Dr. Ashwani Parashar, Dean Academic Affairs. Dr. Manoj Datta, Director, PEC elucidated the account of the collaboration describing the immense benefits that can be realized by the students and faculty of both the Universities through the academic collaboration. Dr. Doug McEachern and Dr.Hema Sharda, from UWA enlightened the audience about the mammoth of opportunities at UWA in terms of internships/ scholarships and joint projects at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level for both students and faculty. This was followed by a prolific discussion.
On this auspicious ceremony, Dr.Hema Sharda , Director, South Asia relations from UWA announced three Scholarships for the students of PEC which was followed by felicitation of Dignitaries by Mementos and vote of thanks by Prof. V. Rihani, Registrar,PEC. The entire ceremony was well coordinated by Dr. Vasundhara Singh, Faculty Incharge, academic collaborations and student exchange, PEC. The dignitaries from UWA also addressed the students. The ceremony marked the beginning towards an active exchange of students and conduct of joint research to impart quality education and to promote teaching and research in both the Universities.
