National Workshop on Soil Stabilisation (Oct 24, 2009)
A National Workshop on ‘STABILISATION OF SOIL AND GRANULAR LAYERS FOR PAVEMENTS’ was organized at PEC University of Technology in collaboration with Indian Roads Congress and Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi on 24th Oct 2009. It was inaugurated by the Adviser to the UT Administrator, Sh Pradip Mehra, IAS.
He stressed on the role of basic infrastructure and said that roads were the key component which played a key role in economic development as they provide physical connectivity between and within cities. He also said that as the volume of traffic is increasing exponentially, it becomes vital to construct high-quality roads
and the existing paths should also be maintained. He stressed that best-quality construction material should be used and least possible environmental impact ensured. To mark the occasion, the Adviser also released a souvenir in form of CDs and presented mementos to the dignitaries present. Sh R.P. Indoria, Secretary General, IRC highlighted the importance of stabilised soils for economical road construction. Prof. Manoj Dutta, Director, PEC University of Technology emphasized that right technology should be use to prepare the mix of soil and stabiliser used for construction. The workshop was attended by Practicing Engineers, Consultants, Scientists and Academicians from all over the country. It provided a forum to exchange knowledge and discuss their experiences, practices and the developments in the fields of construction of roads. Er Mahesh Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief, Haryana PWD, and Prof S.N. Sachdeva of NIT Kurukshetra chaired the two sessions.
