ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

  Specializations

POWER SYSTEM

Research in power system is concerned with generation, transmission, and utilization of electrical energy. This specialization in area meets the challenges of growing load demand and increased requirement of metering, control and monitoring.

The intensive studies in Power System include:

  • Underground and overhead distribution design of primary and secondary system.
  • Scheduling, Load flow study and Contingency analysis.

POWER ELECTRONICS &ELECTRICAL DRIVES

A generally quantitative approach is opted and students should be able to analyze the operation of the circuits given and choose suitable circuits and components for given applications.

There are four broad objectives through which the course progresses, each with points of detail:

1. To demonstrate the versatility of switch-mode power processing

2. To introduce the semiconductor devices useful in power applications

3. To describe the circuit topologies for each form of power conversion

4. To demonstrate the application of power electronics to servo-quality control of motors for control purposes

CONTROL SYSTEM ENGINEERING

The curriculum is designed to prepare students with the necessary background to work in the area of linear and non-linear control, optimal control, robust control, multi-variable feedback control, digital signal processing, etc. It also discusses and illustrates design concepts such as LQG design methods, robust stability and performance and H-infinity design technique.
