MECHANISM FOR COMPENSATORY ATTENDANCE FOR ABSENCE DUE TO SWINE FLU OR FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS
As already notified, students affected by Swine Flu as well as those showing Flu like symptoms should abstain from attending classes during the period from 20th to 27th November, 2009. They would be given compensatory attendance by the respective Course Instructors as per the following provisions:
- In case a student showing flu-like symptoms is asked to leave the class by the Course Instructor, he/she shall be given the attendance for that class by the instructor.
- A student, who stays away from the classes during this period on account of the reasons cited above, shall be given compensatory attendance by the Course Instructor on production of a certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner.
In all such cases, the compensatory attendance will be in the form of an addition to the actual number of lectures attended by the student. For example, a student has actually attended 35 lectures and he produces a medical certificate for the period from 22nd to 27th November, 2009. During the period specified in the medical certificate, 3 lectures were delivered for a particular course. Then the instructor of that course will record his attended lectures as 35 + 3. The number of delivered lectures shall be the actual number of these for the entire class.
This benefit will not be available for any classes missed by a student before the suspension of classes on account of Swine Flu cases, that is, before 13.11.2009. For that period, the normal procedure for condoning the shortage has to be followed. However, in special cases, the Chairman Senate has been empowered by the Senate to condone a shortage upto 15% against the normal allowance of 10% otherwise permitted.
