Alumnus Dr. Pawan Singh visits PEC (Feb 22, 2011)



22nd February 2011 was one of the momentous day in the current academic year when one of the college’s own distinguished alumni i.e. Dr. Pawan Singh of 1968 Mechanical Engineering Batch (B.E.) visited the campus and interacted with the students.
Dr. Singh left after graduation to get a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Rochester, New York. Since 1972, he has held senior technical, management and executive positions at a number of companies in the U.S. Currently he is the CEO and Chief Science Officer of PeriscopeIQ located in Pennsylvania, USA. He also holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. He has received many honors and awards including the Distinction Award from Wharton, four gold medals for academic excellence, and several scholarships and fellowships. He graduated at the top of his class from Punjab Engineering College at the age of 19. He was told that he was the youngest person to graduate and with the widest margin in score from the next candidate in the history of PEC.
Dr. Singh has published or presented nearly 100 papers, most in peer-reviewed journals or proceedings, taught management and technical courses, chaired symposia and delivered invited lectures internationally. The theme of the interaction was ‘Globalization’. Dr. Singh, drawing from his rich experience, gave an engaging perspective on globalization and how it is going to affect businesses in the next twenty years. His talk was followed by an interaction with the students. A number of topics were discussed including business ethics, outsourcing, American corporate culture, and changing face of Indian business. In the past, Dr. Singh has visited PEC a few times in the last 40 years and delivered lectures that covered diverse subjects such as “Advanced Mathematical Techniques” and “Career Opportunities Abroad for Young Engineers.”
His talk was peppered with interesting anecdotes and kept the audience interested throughout.
Dr. Manoj Datta, Director PEC presented him a token of gratitude and thanked him for sharing his diversified experiences and knowledge with the students.
